2003-04 Fall/Winter Family Programs

GRINNELL ATHLETIC AND RECREATION CENTER
The GARC will open to the public beginning October 1, 2003 through April 30, 2004. Passes are available for purchase at the Recreation Department only.

Monday – Friday 6:45 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Saturday 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.

*The building or portions of the building may be closed for programming purposes on occasion. Please check the schedule at the GARC for these dates and times.

GRINNELL COLLEGE - PHYSICAL EDUCATION CENTER
The PEC pool and racquetball courts will open to the public on Tuesday, September 2, 2003, with regular hours through May 14, 2004. Passes are available for purchase at the Recreation Department only.

YOGA CLASS
Yoga is an ancient system that seeks to maintain balance in the body through certain movements and stretches. It can reduce stress as well as tone and strengthen the body. Anyone can practice yoga and benefit from its gentle approach to wellness.
Instructor: Vanessa Zboreak
Enrollment limited to 15 participants per session.

SELF-DEFENSE CLASS
This class is for anyone wanting to learn how to protect themselves in a few easy steps. Grinnell Tae Kwon Do Club instructor, Stephanie Schinnow, will teach you the basics of self defense. This class is also a great introduction to the world of martial arts. Participants must register with the Recreation Department before attending this course.

GRINNELL TAE KWON DO CLUB
Class is open to beginner and advanced students and is taught as a traditional Tae Kwon Do class. Grinnell TKD Club provides an atmosphere where students can excel at their own rate and many gain confidence in themselves and their abilities which are sometimes overlooked in team sports.

STEP AEROBICS
Join our high energy, athletically based program taught by a nationally-certified group fitness instructor. You'll enjoy great heart-pumping music, fun easy-to-follow step and aerobics routines, and some strength and flexibility training. This class is designed to improve your cardiovascular fitness, enhance your strength, and build upon your flexibility. Instructor: Rita Yablonsky ACE, AFAA

LONG AND STRONG TONING CLASS
This workout will focus on strengthening core muscle groups and increasing flexibility throughout the body. A brief warm-up will consist of light aerobic activity followed by focused toning for the torso, hips, legs, chest, back, shoulders and arms. Class will end with a relaxing stretching and deep breathing period designed to release daily tension, decrease muscle soreness, and increase flexibility. This class is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.
